Chapter 1: Visiting a Patient
June and July are the rainy season, and every day there is a rainstorm. Yao Xishi draws the curtains and goes back to bed.
When there is no shift in the store, she spends most of her time in bed.
She has less than 5,000 yuan left in her savings. She just moved here and has spent thousands of dollars of her money already.
Wen Fei asked her out several times, but she refused all of them, and she also missed all class gatherings.
Every day she sees the 'moments' of her friends who are traveling everywhere. They sway their youth and smile brightly. For them, this summer vacation is the most carefree.
For Yao Xishi, the suffering has just begun, and she has to worry about the next semester's tuition and living expenses.
After Yao Lian died, Wang Qingxiang's family did not allow her to take anything away. She had no one else to rely on and had to rely on herself.
The quilt covered her head, and she planned to sleep for a while.
Just as she was about to fall asleep in a daze, she was woken up by a phone call.
"Why haven't you arrived yet?" Wen Fei asked on the other end of the phone.
"What's going on?" Her voice was muffled, and she hadn't fully woken up.
She hurriedly changed her clothes and went out.
As soon as she entered the class, Wen Fei saw her and waved her hand: "This way."
"There are only two people in the class who did not attend; you are one of them, and guess who the other is?" She said Yao Xishi looked around and asked hesitantly: "Who?"
"Jiang Chi," she approached, and said, "He was hit by a car."
Yao Xishi said "Oh" expressionlessly.
"I just went to see him yesterday, broken bones, lying on the hospital bed, unable to move."
She lacked interest, and she didn't know if she was listening.
Seeing her like that, Wen Fei couldn't help but say, "Xishi, you and him are still classmates; why don't you go and see him?"
She said nothing.
He was hit by a car, and she doesn't know if the injury is serious or not? During the entire graduation ceremony, Yao Xishi didn't listen much.
It was only when the sobbing of the girl next to her came that she realized that this was a very sad occasion, and she didn't put much thought into it; instead, she was thinking about Jiang Chi.
After taking the admission notice, the class teacher stopped her: "I didn't expect that the two students who got the best exams in our class would both apply to the Faculty of Law at Dongda University."
He took another piece of paper and handed it to her.
"This is Jiang Chi's admission letter, you can help him get it; you are also destined, and you will continue to be classmates in the future."
She couldn't refuse, so she took it silently.
In the Municipal People's Hospital, Jiang Chi was lying on the hospital bed, looking at the rain outside the window in a daze.
A car accident ruined his entire vacation. He was supposed to be on vacation at this time, surrounded by sunny beaches and beautiful women.
But he was thinking about his own business that night, and didn't see that the car in front had already turned into an S shape.
The drunk driver was taken into custody, and he had been in bed for days with a broken right leg.
There was a knock on the door, Jiang Chi came back to his senses, frowned, and looked at the door.
In the last few days, there has been a steady stream of visitors, never stopping. Now that his mother is not here, he is really tired of coping.
Yao Xishi opened the door and saw him with a serious face.
"Am I bothering you by coming here?" she said.
Jiang Chi didn't expect her to visit him, and his expression softened, and he nodded to her: "Find a chair for yourself."
"No need." She shook her head: "I'm here to give you this."
He looked at her. They hadn't seen each other for almost a month.
"Sit," he said, ignoring what she was holding.
Yao Xishi put the documents on the bedside table and wanted to leave, but she remembered that he had taken good care of her during the time of Yao Lian's death. Now that he is hospitalized, she doesn't show any concern, and it seems that she can't justify it.
She moved a chair, sat down, and asked politely, "Are you okay?"
"Can't you see?" He asked back.
He was still in a cast, and his face was a little pale.
"You have a good rest..."
"Is that all?" He sneered.
Yao Xishi didn't know which words she said that ignited his anger again, and she also turned cold.
The four eyes met, and no one spoke.
The rain was getting heavier outside, and there was thunder; his mouth opened and closed, and the thunder simply overshadowed his voice.
"What did you say?" She asked
"What are your plans?" He repeated.
She looked away and looked at the bouquet of flowers piled up next to the sofa, not far away.
"I don't have any plans," she said lightly,
"How much does your part-time job pay you?"
She didn't speak.
"When will you be able to earn enough for your tuition?" He paused, and then said: "Tuition, living expenses, and miscellaneous things add up to ten to twenty thousand. Can you make it with your part-time job?"
Yao Xishi stood up abruptly, , the chair moved, making a sharp sound as it rubbed against the ground.
Jiang Chi stared at her without blinking.
"Are you done?" She held the bag with a slightly white hand: "I'm leaving first."
As soon as she turned around, Yao Xishi's eyes were already red, thinking of his sentence, "I just pity her."
She is poor; she has nowhere to go, and she can only rely on a part-time job to support herself.
But she was tired of him acting like a savior, looking at her from above, and peeling off her scars again and again.
What can she do? What did she do wrong again?
She just wanted to get away from her original life, and the outwardly glamorous Yao Xishi was dead.
But he would remind her time and time again how difficult the road ahead was and how despondent he was.
His voice slammed into her ears just as she reached for the doorknob.
"You misunderstood me." His voice was hoarse: "I just want to help you."
